Price tools

What a price tool is

A price tool is a short set of questions that runs on a website. A visitor picks the services they need, answers one question per screen, and enters their name, email and zip (phone is optional). They then see a price range for the work. The business owner gets the lead by email, and by text if you switch that on.

The prices come from the tool’s defaults until you or the business owner change them. The visitor is told the range is a ballpark, not a final quote.

The 11 trades

Each trade has its own services, questions and default prices. Any of the 11 can be added to any site, whatever its trade.

There is no roofing price tool in this list.

Adding a price tool when you build a site

The site builder has a Price tool picker. When the trade you type matches one of the 11, the picker starts on that tool. You can pick any other tool, or No price tool.

When the site goes live, the tool you picked is set up with its default prices and turned on, as long as your account has an email address for leads. When the build has a brand color, the tool’s buttons use it.

Adding a price tool to an existing site

  1. Open the site in your dashboard and find the Price tool card.
  2. Under Which price tool, choose a trade.
  3. Fill in Business name, Headline visitors see and Your color if you want them.
  4. Under Where leads go, enter at least one address in Email new leads to.
  5. Open Your prices to change any price, then click Save.
  6. Click Turn on.

Turn on needs an email address for leads. Without one, the card shows “Add the email address new leads should go to first.” Turn off stops the tool loading; prices and leads are kept. The card’s status reads On or Off.

Lead-gen batches

The lead-gen batch builder has the same Price tool picker. Every mini-site in the batch shares one tool at the default prices, and the tool shows “Sample pricing — actual rates may vary.” above the estimate. Leads from it go to your account’s email address.

Putting it on a website

On a WordPress site built in your dashboard, turning the tool on adds a tab to the edge of every page. The tab reads “Get an instant price” and opens the tool in a side panel. Turning the tool off removes the tab. If the site cannot be reached at that moment, the tab is not added; use the snippet instead.

For any other website, copy the line under Put this on your website with Copy, and paste it once anywhere in the page. It adds the same tab. See it yourself opens the tool on its own page.

To show the tool inside the page instead of behind a tab, add &mode=inline to the end of the snippet’s address and put <div id="sitefirst-price-tool"></div> where the tool should appear.

Prices

Each trade’s page explains how its price is worked out and walks through an example. In short: each answer adds a dollar range or changes the running total by a percent, the services picked are added together, and the total is rounded to the nearest $10.

You edit prices in the card under Your prices. A tool that is turned on shows new prices the next time a visitor opens it.

Client pricing link

In the Price tool card, Create client pricing link makes a link you can send to the business owner. They can set the tool’s prices on a page that carries your name and colors, without signing in. Anyone with the link can change the prices. Revoke stops the link working at once; a new link is different from the old one. The card shows when the client last changed prices.

Leads

A lead is saved when the visitor taps See your estimate, and not before. It is emailed to the addresses in Email new leads to under your agency’s name, and texted to the owner when texting is set up. The visitor gets an email copy of their estimate. Leads are listed in the card under Leads from your price tool.

Limits

The contact step can be sent 12 times per hour from one internet address. After that, the visitor still sees the estimate, but their details are not sent and they are asked to call the business.
