Changing your WordPress admin email

The WordPress admin email is the address WordPress uses for its own notices about your site. It is stored inside WordPress.

What it starts as

When your site is built, the admin email is set to the email address of the dashboard account that created it.

How to change it

  1. On your site page in the dashboard, click Open WP Admin. Sign in with the username and password on the WordPress Access card.
  2. Go to Settings, then General.
  3. Change Administration Email Address.
  4. Save the page.

The new address applies as soon as you save. WordPress normally emails a confirmation link to the new address and waits for a click. On our hosting that step is turned off, so no confirmation email is sent.

Check it

Open Settings, then General again. The field shows the new address.

Good to know

  • It does not change your dashboard sign-in or your account email.
  • Contact form emails go to Lead notification email in the Website Editor's Global Values. If that is empty, they go to the business Email there. Only when both are empty do they go to this admin email. See Contact forms and email.
  • It does not change the alerts set on the Where leads go card on your site page.
